The deep etching challenge

March 7, 2020

There is something to be said about working with metal and acid. It is fascinating.

The solidity of steel plate reduced to lace thin strips with acid is not to be missed.

I have been working recently on three plates to create a sculpture that is reminiscent of displacement, conflict, disaster, tragedy. It is amazing how much time destroying a plate takes compare to a split of a second that the drone takes to reduce homes into ruins and ashes. Or that fire takes to do the same.

It took me in excess of 120 hours to get to the point where I am happy to show it in an exhibition. The first will be at the Glue Factory in Glasgow (opening on 12th of March 2020) , as part of a large group show for all 3rd year Glasgow School of Art Fine Art: Painting and Printmaking students.
